    Seattle Hangin

    Howdy Hangers,

I've been using a hammock for about 6 years now here in the PNW. I bought the HH backpaker thinking it was the only one available (woops) but have been pretty satisfied with it.

I am currently playing around with how to best insulate. Here in the Northwest we need a UQ or pad and TQ pretty much year round. I ended up sewing my own TQ for use on the ground before I got my HH and was into Ray Jardine's stuff. It's an ok TQ but a little narrow for my sleep style. I like to move around a bit. I also made up an UQ but it's short due to the bottom entrance on the HH.

Ideally I'd like to make my own hammock with an integral down underquilt like a few folks have mentioned. Can anyone point me into some threads on this that are more recent?

So far, like 15 hours of reading reading and more reading. Love the videos Shug!

    Scott

    Howdy Scott,

Welcome to the forum from another Seattle hanger. I think the search that might benefit you is for a "down hammock".

One thing about making a hammock with integrated UQ is that if you use nylon, it will stretch. We have a dude here who did make one out of cuben fiber and the range he is getting on that thing is amazing.

    Welcome to HF dude!

welcome from the south. if you're thinking about any diy projects...there's a company that does modifacations on the HH to change that bottom entry to a side one. ( forgot the name but a search on this site should steer you in the right direction.) installoing a side one would make it a lot easyer to make gear for the hammock- this imho
