Help me with Hennessy Whoopie conversion

I've replaced the stock suspension on my HH Backpacker with homemade whoopie slings. At first, I didn't have good luck with rigging the fly using the standard HH prusiks (they seemed to slip). After reading here about several people that do use the prusiks, I decided to setup and give it a try last weekend.

The prusiks are holding better, but they grip the amsteel right on the bury and make adjustment of the whoopies a problem. What did I do wrong?

There's a thread here here today that discusses this same thing. Smokebait responded that the whoopies he sells for Hennessy conversion are longer between the fixed eye bury and the adjustable bury so that you can attach the tarp prusiks.

When I converted my HH to whoopies, I definitely didn't want that extra length because that adds to the length of your overall suspension, thereby increasing the distance required between trees. This is why I decided to have a separate tarp suspension.

I've converted my HH Explorer to whoopies. I agree with the above post...your best bet overall is to hang your tarp seperately. There are a lot of benefits of going this route, IMHO. Ability to adjust the height of the tarp, option to skin the tarp or hammock each seperately, etc...

I agree I just converted my HH this past weekend and I made my ridge line seperately, I like it this way because i can have my tarp higher up so i can stand up when im under the tarp or i can low it when the bad weather rolls in. It's all on what you like. peace out happy hanging!!!!

OK, I'm going back to a separate ridge line. Which is better- tarp over the ridge line or under it?

Much discussed topic. If your tarp ridgeline has a cat cut to it, then over the tarp RL is good. For winter or wet weather under the tarp is good for hanging stuff and extra support for the tarp. A lot of the time its just personal preference.

I'm partial to the "no tarp ridgeline" method. I use the HH Hex tarp, and have just tied off some additional cordage to the end d-rings of the tarp, and use Fig 9s to adjust and tension the tarp across the ends to the trees directly. No ridgeline above or below the tarp that way, and I have the tarp stored in snakeskins seperately from the hammock this way. If there's a downside to doing it like this, I've not stumbled across it yet.

I also do not use a continuous ridgeline. I have small continuous loops on each end of the tarp tied in a prusik around the cordage for length adjustment. I just tie off the cordage to the trees. I also use tarp sleeves for storage.

    HH Whoppie conversion

I did the same thing that you did but am using Stuart's whoopie slings as well as his single ridge line for the tarp (whoopieslings.com). I re-used the HH prusiks on the hammock suspension to hold the UQ. Not much pressure there and they don't slip.

I have same problem with mine. I am cosidering some elastic loops about six inches long so prusics drop back to double line? 1/8 elastic cord might keep tarp tentioned better under load? I will test on AT end of March
