    Well

Well, I can't see the pics, but what if you put buttonholes on BOTH pieces.
They are flat, and don't weigh as much as grommets (do they?).
Then you could sew short ties to the buttonhole. In fact, you could USE the end of each tie to reinforce the buttonhole.

Then, to attach, you'd just lace the short tie from one buttonhole through the other, and vice versa, and tie.

I have this picture in my head... too bad I can't draw on the puter.

I am trying to avoid zippers or velcro - maybe using hook and bar or ring and bar attachments. They would be infinitely lighter than anything else I can think of, and easier to sew. Any comments? I know you've used the hook and eye approach on your UQ.
The idea was borne of my experience using a poncho to cover the end of my MacCat Deluxe in the rain. The design is to "cut away" as much of the poncho shape as I can to just get the door...lay the edge of a door side on top of the tarp, and connect tabs on the door to tabs on the tarp, with some down-the-spine suspension to provide some tension.

I did a barter deal thing with the PreachaMan, and when he and his wife get back from wherever they are this June they've promised to build this to some specs I provided them.

It's been all I can do to keep from making this myself. But they're going to, and this is my summer for house maintenance (at least when I'm home).

I hope I'll have some experience with this later in the summer.
