Has anyone used poncho liners as UQ?

I was wondering if anyone has done a DIY project with surplus military poncho liners fashioned into a UQ.

I was planning on purchasing the Z-liner for my Clark NA, but the money well has dried up unexpectedly. Considering what I've read on this AWESOME forum, I don't think the z-liner would fit my needs anyway (thanks for saving me alot of cash!).

So, I'm starting a DIY UQ project. The cost of down, climashield, insulfleece, etc puts them out of reach. I used the poncho & liner as a bedroll for years in the Marine Corps and from snowy mountains to the frigid desert nights, that setup kept me nice and toasty. That put the idea in my head to use that as the base for my UQ project. For $20 on eBay, it has shot right to the top of the list.

If anyone has used them before, I'd appreciate some idea as far as what needed to be done to make it work, what temps you've used it in, etc.

    Thanks!

I use one all the time, it is good down to around 40 degrees. Anything much colder and you might want to add some extra insulation. But give it a shot and best of luck.

    Poncho liner UQ

I have been wondering the same thing. Would you clip it onto the hammock? Stitch it and hang it with bungees? I have a nice bag I would stick in if it got colder. Would it be loose enough to attach the bag to the liner to keep it in place? Could someone post pictures of how they have attached it please.

i made a PLUQ a while ago...worked good..maybe down to freezing..used a Wiggy's ..which is a little more built than the mil ones... but its not as efficient size and weight wise as a KAQ or equivalent ...put shockcord and cordlocks thru the two ends and suspended it by four ties.

Your talking about the PLUQ. Yes, that would be the ponco liner under quilt. There are many, many threads on this subject.
Due to the weight, you may want to add Dutch Quilt clips or make several loops to attach a shock cord from loop over the CRL to other side.

    Thanks for the links!

I'm new to the terminology here and just went through a few "start here" pages.

Those should help me kill some time
