Short hike to a low river

Got out for a little day hike today.
Down to the South Fork American River at Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park.

Last time I went down there with the intention to hang for a little while the river was high and fast under my two trees.

    Today, not so much.

I decided to keep it simple and dug out my old DIY double layer hammock and some long skinny straps. I just larks-headed the straps to the hammock after setting the straps up around the trees.

I had tried some fancy pleating with this hammock. I had a nice supportive ridge rather than an annoying ridge, but the edges of the hammock were a little floppy.
I'd have to take it apart to tell you how exactly I pleated it, so it will remain a mystery for now.

I had brought along a very thin closed cell foam but it was warm enough today that I didn't feel like breaking up my loafing by rummaging through my pack.

    Happy feet!

Awesome! Gotta love a spot like that. Great hammock set up too. I bet it was hard to pack up and leave that spot. The comfy of a hammock and the sound of water almost requires a 12 hr "nap."

I love the idea of getting out without all of the sturm und drang entailed by a multi night expedition. Bravo!
