Hello (howdy?) from TX

Hi there, I am very new to hammocking - just ordered a Hennessy and am excited to try it out! Sleeping on the ground is just not that comfortable...so I am hoping that I will love the hammock as much as everyone else seems to! I'm in College Station, Texas - doing a veterinary pathology residency at Texas A&M. I moved here from northeast Georgia in July and am really missing all the green! I have done some hiking/backpacking on the Lone Star Hiking Trail, but am hoping to discover some other places to get out into the woods as well, so I'd appreciate any suggestions from the other Texans on the forum.

Hey.....Well, to compare to east coast trees, you need to mostly be thinking east Texas. There is some nice hiking in the hill country (Austin and points west) near you, maybe check out Lost Maples state park. Check out Tyler State Park also. And if you have not figured it out yet, this is the second largest state in the union! 900+ miles across it, so plan on travel time to get most anywhere!
