Most pods close at both ends and zip or Velcro in the middle so you can poke your head out or have a hole to breathe through.
Also you may want to add another layer on top of you like a Top Quilt and allow the pod to gently lay on top of that.
If you add the ridgeline make sure it is outside the pod. Otherwise you will have too much gap to warm up.
Are you putting more insulation under you that wraps around your shoulders like a pad or under quilt? That will help too.

Here's an example of how the pod can be used with a pad.

It is possible to get condensation on the tarp even without your exhaled vapor making it much worse. Any moisture that rises from the ground or your mouth/nose/body (heat rises) is going to condense when it hits that cold tarp. Then if you bump the tarp, it will either rain or snow on you. So the tarp needs to be far enough from you that you don't bump it. Or, if it is attached to the stand, and the stand moves when you move---- rain.

So you are using a DIY pod? If your butt is cold, keep in mind that on the commercial PeaPod, I adjust the length towards the end of the hammock so that the lower level of the pod just barely touches my back. But no tighter so as to NOT compress the insulation. When this is done, often a pod will be lifted by the edges of the hammock so that there is a small or giant gap above you. This will need to be partially or fully filled with some additional insulation if it is very cold. And you must be able to close of any openings where your warm air will rush out and cold air rush in. It will rush in to fill those gaps with cold air, so you want to have no gaps. Get rid of the gaps by either filling them with insulation or tightening the pod suspension. Add a suspension if you have to. The commercial PeaPod uses simple nylon "shoe laces", more or less, for it's end suspension, and Velcro for closing the top as much as needed.

My cold spot is my shoulders. Everything else is really warm. And all I am using is the pod. I actually took my shirt off for a pillow because it was warm enough. Ill make the adjustments this weekend hopefully.

maybe bring a pillow? Your shoulders might have been warmer if you were wearing a shirt.

I didn't have a top blanket. Maybe a pillow would be an easy trick since I need one anyways.

+1. Site selection also plays a large part in how much condensation you will see. Keeping your tarp pitched close will increase the amount of condensation, keeping it steep should keep it from dripping on you. A little airflow is good.

Here's a great article to read (some other good info there too):
