Loop in Suspension

I'm totally new here. Is there something wrong with this idea?
Make a simple loop in the middle of the line that is attached to the hammock.
Run the line through the tree huggers and back down through the loop in the line and secure above the loop with two half hitches.
Will this hold? I'm 115 lbs. Does the loop do anything to the ability of the line to hold up the hammock safely?

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're making a trucker's hitch. That's a pretty standard knot for tarp suspensions. I'm not sure about hammocks.

What you suggest would be adequate but would be a pain to adjust and readjust which is important for getting comfortable. Another issue is knots can derate the breaking limit of cordage by a significant amount. This is not a huge deal if you are light weight and you are using a high strength line. Amsteel which is the popular cordage used for suspension is typically spliced because splicing preserves its weight rating to something like 90% plus because of its slippery nature, knots can slip if the amsteel is highly loaded.

I use a similar set up for anchoring a canoe to a roof top rack. Line comes off the nose, down to a bumper hook & back up to the loop. Take the tag end and and loop it through again, over lapping the first loop. It will lock down when you pull to tighten, then secure with a slippery half hitch or two.

Don't see anything wrong with the idea as I understand it, but I guess I find myself wondering why you'd want to do this.

Yes, it will work. But the loop knot will degrade the strength of the line or webbing somewhat. And the loop knot (not necessarily the adjusting halfhitch) may get pretty tight and hard to re-position. Perhaps better would be to larkshead a metal ring in the line in place of the loop. Take a look at the Clark Hammock site to see how they use their drip rings as a form of Trucker's Hitch.

The only thing "wrong" with it is that you are passing up better options. Whoopie slings are the superior choice here for suspension. Research whoope slings on here, take your time.

Not if you use a marlin spike hitch to form the loop...pulls right out. The bitter end of the line is the "marlin spike" in this case.

I'm with the others, though, there are better choices.
