Neck pain and pillow issues

While using clothes in a stuff sack may be the lightest option (what I've always used), if you don't mind carrying a few extra ounces, Kelty makes a really nice camping pillow I just picked up at ****'s sporting goods for about $10. I think the bottom is nylon and the top is a cotton/poly blend (breathable, lightweight, dries out super quickly, really soft and comfortable, compresses into stuff sack, if you can't tell I really like it). And it's large enough to support your neck and head. If you just search their site for camp pillow you'll find it.

Your bravier than I am to use your dirty clothes for anything close to your head. Mine are always nasty. I usually only carry hiking and sleeping clothes and an extra pair of socks.

Well, according to the jungle hammock gospel, the Claytor does make the load lighter because you are so well rested, so in a way......

I don't think even a JH will combat global warning, but it's perfect for hanging in the warmer temperatures. And when the global flooding starts, you'll be high and dry off the ground in your perfect Claytor JH.

I have a stuff sack that is fleece on the inside and silnylon on the outside. It carries my kitchen in my pack, but once I setup camp, I turn the sack inside out so the fleece is on the outside and stuff it with the stuff sacks for my gear (so I won't loose them) and extra clothing until I get the proper firmness. Instant pillow.

headchange4u, is this sac a DIY or available from a retailer? For the few extra grams fleece sounds real nice vs. nylon against the skin.

No pain when sleeping without pillow but on the new JRB bridge hammock I need some form of neck support for optimal comfort. The HH is fine without a pillow. Found out that a wide (using a 7 X 17" stuff sack) stays put. Tried the small one that came with the JRB. It always ended up somewhere other than under my head/neck.

I tried out several pillows and stuff sacks made into pillows using clothing, whatever. I finally found a Slumberjack camp pillow. It stuffs into a fairly small package. What made the difference was when I had ZQ sew right down the middle, thus creating a left half and right half and somewhat of a "V". My head/neck fits in the "V" and ..ah... all night comfort. When side sleeping I sleep on one side of the pillow. The other half keeps my head leaning in the right direction.
