Brummel Splice and MacDonald Brummel on Animated Knots by Grog

    Brummel Splice and MacDonald Brummel.

Just discovered these have been added on the Animated Knots site. I feel like they have just been added recently but I could be wrong. In any case, these two animations are good for learning to make the fixed eye loops on whoopies slings of if you want to make a length of amsteel with two fixed eye loops on both ends for suspension extenders.

The MacDonald Brummel is particularly handy as it allows you to make a fixed loop if you only have access to one end. It's convenient if you don't want to undo your entire whoopie ling to redo the fixed eye loop or to save you from pulling a completed fixed eye loop through he amsteel to make the other one which can be difficult.

Thought this might help some people.

    Good find, Bubba

With the creation of whoopie slings and even amsteel suspension extenders (fixed eyes on each end of cord), I've never had a problem making them using the conventional locked brummel method.

It would take some practice to get specific loop and bury sizes using the MacDonald brummel method.

    Cheers

Same here. I've only used the MacDonald a few times, once where I wanted to make the loops bigger on some extenders and a couple of times to redo the buries on the fixed eyes on some whoopies.

I've used the MacDonald method many times, I'ts no more difficult to get the right size than the standard method. Sometimes you need a fixed eye on both ends of a line, that's most often when i'm using it.

(The size of your loop is determined by the two pass through points).

+1 What Dan said. They're not hard to do at all.

I like to make a short piece with two eyes for attaching rings to a hammock.
