    Hammock Manufacturer Country of Origin

This list spawned from a discussion in this thread:

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4657

It is a comprehensive list of manufacturers, and where their hammocks are made. Thanks to all who helped contribute, and if you see something that needs correcting, or know of another company that we here would need to know about, please add it in to the thread!

After contacting several companies, looking up info on the websites, and recieving input from several people here, I have compiled this list of hammock companies, and the country of origin of their products:

    Byer--Brazil and China http://www.byerofmaine.com/amazonas.htm

--Cotton hammocks w/o spreader bars are Brazilian. Travel style hammocks and cotton hammocks with a spreader bar are Chinese

    Clark--USA http://www.junglehammock.com/

Received email with this URL from HH [ http://www.hennessyhammock.com/manuf...nghistory.html ] Here's the salient portion, sans advertising:
    __________________________________________________ ____________________

When Hennessy Hammock started back in 1999, we made hammocks in our woodshed and my mother's garage in Florida. Next we moved to our dining room. When we got too big, we went to a factory in Everett, Washington. When they couldn't keep up, we moved part of our production to China, still working with the Everett, Washington factory and also still making some
    items in Canada.

We are dedicated to making the best product we can for the customer at the
best price but we will not ever compromise on quality. Because many factories are moving offshore and closing down in the US, it's becoming increasingly difficult to find factories that can handle larger productions. Ropes for all Hennessy Hammocks are made in the US. Mesh for all Hennessy Hammocks are made in the US.

We work with the second largest tent factory in China, which works with many of the top brands sold in the world. We send our employees over to China to supervise production and inspect every single hammock before it is shipped. This has guaranteed consistently good quality for our customers.

The people who work in the factory are high school graduates. They come to work neatly dressed with their hair combed, shoes shined and ready to put in a good day's work, just like my dad did back in the 50's. We have lunch with the factory employees in the factory cafeteria every day when we are there. The factory is spacious, well-lit with good ventilation, very clean and well-organized. The conditions are as good or better than in any US sewing factory I have visited and the factory machinery is state of the art. The workers have a lot to say about their time schedules, production organization and vote on decisions such as working overtime. Right now the factory is taking time off from regular production to make tents for earthquake victims in the Chinese interior. Because factories in China must produce more than 1 million tents to temporarily house earthquake victims, Hennessy Hammock has donated over 20,000 yards of US mosquito mesh to be used for the earthquake victim tents. The factory workers have a terrific work ethic and are not ashamed to say they are working to make their country a better place.

Not all Hennessy Hammocks and accessories are made in China. We have 12 models and a number of accessories. Some are made in Canada, some in the
US and some in China. We use fabrics from the US, Taiwan, Korea and China.

2 out of the three Expeditions we make are made completely in the US. The Expedition Asym Woodland Camo and Expedition Asym MultiColor are manufactured in the US. The fabrics were purchased in the US from an American company and labeled "Made with pride in USA" but what most people don't realize is that most fabrics sold by US companies are imported from China and then sometimes dyed and finished in the US.

    Here is the list:
Adventure Racer - made in USA
    Hyperlight - made in China
Backpacker - some made in USA, some made in China
Explorer Ultralight - some made in USA, some made in China
Desert Rat - made in USA
Expedition Asym Hunter Green - made in China
Expedition Asym MultiColor (three different versions) - made in USA
Expedition Woodland Camo - made in USA
Explorer Deluxe - made in China
Survivor Woodland Camo - made in USA
Survivor Universal Digital Camo - made in USA
    Scout - made in China
Insulation System for Expedition Asym/Backpacker/Hyperlight - made in USA
OverCover for Expedition Asym/Backpacker/Hyperlight - made in Canada
Insulation System for Explorers - made in USA
OverCover for Explorers - made in Canada
    Snakeskins - made in China
Water Collectors - made in China
Accessory Webbing Straps - made in Canada

In the past 10 years, innovation has taken Hennessy Hammock from being a
backyard do-it-yourselfer to es ablishing an entirely new segment in the
    outdoor industry.

Interesting collection of info, for certain. Thanks for putting it together Narwhalin.
