Glad you troopers had a chilly good time and Happy Birthday Med Man. I need to do a better job scheduling the Tiger Cub activities with the hangs - I now have one free weekend a month.

Apparently you were missed up there. MM was constantly reminding me that while I might be funny, I'm no Roche. I don't know whether to step my game up or give up. Where's a good down tree next to a trailhead sign when you need one!

At the Big Ditch! Too bad I can't explain that story to the rest of the class.

Great soundtrack in the video - was it Earth, Wind & Freezer?

Thanks for the vid and Happy Happy to Medicine Man!

MM missed all the fun the first day. Great hike in with Damjamman and Wisenber. About 1/2 mile in we were treated to a beautiful view of the mountain balds and valley. At the next overlook there was nothing, socked in that quick. We made it to camp and my new friends gave some constructive criticism on my new tarp setup (Thanks Fronkey). Set up looked good, so set about looking for firewood. Bad news is that the firewood at RHK is inflammable.

I caught a glimpse or shadow out if the corner if my eye, then again. Investigated to find a fat trail mouse in my pack. I swear I saw him holding out his pinky finger as he feasted on my organic gourmet Earth Fare gorp.

Finally got the fire going when two trail runners showed up. They played in the fire a bit then disappeared. Really. They went into the shelter and we never saw them again. Must have bailed in the middle of the night.

Laughed and lied around the fire with my buds for a while, they are really funny, but talk about pie a lot. Good times. Time for bed so I shoved all the stuff LD Cakes told me to bring in there and set about getting things arranged. Everything was good when I heard new voices in the campsite. Sorry, but it was too much trouble to get out and socialize.

Man did the wind ever pick up during the night. It rocked me a bit and the ice/ snow started. About 4:30 AM I woke up and only dozed after that. Briefly thought about answering a call from nature, but the howling wind made me think better of that.

At day break I got up (Hennessey so always feel like I am being born again) to find Damjamman packing. One look at the conditions and it was obvious that continuing on this trip was insanity, so I decided to head out with him. Probably not really safe to be on the trail alone in those conditions. We were heading out when MM came to meet us. His gear made us look like the rank amateurs we are.

Very cold but absolutely beautiful hike down the mountain in the heavy snow.

The pick up car is still waiting for us at the end of the trail. The roads are too icy to go get it today, will try tomorrow.

Thanks for a great time from the newbie!

Great way to spend a birthday! I think Poof's pack was taller than she was I liked Mac's sock in those temps. It looked liked it held up better than the tarp in those conditions.

    Thanks for the video

Love thoughs gloves and that mile high back pack! It sounds like the pod might replace the tarp one day. Thanks for the cold AND windy trip report, MedicineMan!
