    reflective ripstop?

Alright, I think this is working now. So, I've been considering making a hammock sock to improve my cold weather capabilities. www.diygearsupply.com has this reflective ripstop that I caught my eye. I was thinking of putting a patch of it in the bottom of the sock. Like a section 40x66 or so and have the rest 1.1 ripstop. Is anyone familiar with this material or have any other opinions on my train of thought here? I'm thinking the reflective ripstop would help with my underquilt to get me through some low temps.

    After reading through this thread
I think this would be the perfect option for the bottom part of the sock.
I just put an order in to Papa Smurf...maybe he can substitute this for me

i don't Think the diygearsupply reflective material is breathable. It too caught my eye, but i was thinking of using it in 3-6" strips running lengthwise all the way around the inside of the sock. Space them apart Maybe an inch or so for breathability. I don't know

I have experience with this particular material from the same supplier.

I can assure you it is not breathable at all. Some "quilting" would help with that. The strips are also a good idea.

It was my first DIY, I made a 5'x5' emergency "tarp" with 8 tie-outs. It ain't exactly pretty, but I'm proud of it. It does have it's uses and weights in about 6oz IIRC.

Yes, it will help keep heat in your UQ and extend it comfort range, maybe 10*F or so. I recommend using it outside your insulation. A weather shield made of this stuff would be quit functional. I'd mind the breathability and vent it a little. Again a stripe of breathable ripstop down the center might be a good idea, but adds to the complexity of the project.

    Hope that helps.
