FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

A variation on this is to fold accordion style instead of roll. In my experience this has a similar effect (more tension in the middle and edges) but is not quite as extreme. A little less flat but a little mor natural feeling.
I have found that I prefer the gathered (blackbird) style whipping. It does not produce as flat a lay but the tension is consistent and the hammock has a more comfortable feel over all.
As was suggetsed, if you arc, the channel hem just a bit that would bring the sides up. Not sure I would do this but if you want to try... I expect a small adjustment to have a significant impact so take care if you decide to try this.

I've considered this... sort of making a bow shape with the channel... narrower at the edges, wider in the middle of the channel.
Never done it though. Anybody got any insight into this?
I bet getting that arc right would even challenge tncamper's always-steady sewing skills.
Did someone say "stretch-side"?
