Hi from the Jerzybears!!! Russ and I decided to take an overnight in the Catskills near Balsam Mountain NY. There was a lean-to nearby to cook in and a privy. (Never overestimate the value of an outdoor latrine!!!) We hung our hammocks and proceeded to collect firewood for the cold that was coming.
The area has beaver in it and had the area chewed to the bone to build a large dam and lodge. Quilte cool. OCD beavers I believe.
It went down to 9 degrees that night. Shout out to Stormcrows 0 underquilts for hitting the targeted temperature!
We built a fire, drank Irish Whiskey and played Uno relentlessly until almost 10 PM cause you know what happens when you go to bed early. There was a light snow the entire time that did not stick, but blew around for comic relief. After Russ became unable to recite the alphabet from K to M we decided it was time for bed and off to the hammocks we went. It was a 2 hot waterbottle night.
Then the temperature plummeted. I mean, I really had a long discussion with myself about going to the bathroom at 3 am. () Biology won and I suffered.
Russ got up first and built a fire and made coffee (**** I love that man!!!!) We packed up, put on the microspikes and headed home. Check out the pictures. We had so much fun. Winter hammocks ROCK!!!! Picture to follow...Hammock Forums is having a tough time uploading.
