    Mostly.

    Up until very recently, FL state parks wouldn't let you tie anything to any vegetation. This was due to idiots hanging zip lines, clotheslines, hammering nails into trees to hang lanterns, hanging hammocks with only cordage (no straps), etc.

    Fortunately, the park service is willing to give hammocks a try this year--as long as everyone practices good LNT!

    I'd imagine that the reasoning is similar in other states.

    Also sometimes camp grounds for Scouts etc are just big fields- one we go to which has over 2,000 participants (not scouts, but it's still camping) is at a agricultural show grounds- not many trees!

    I so want one.
