    Crazy Creek Crazy Crib

    I just came across this hammock/tarp combo from Crazy Creek and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this companies hammock gear (I have used their chairs and really like them)? Just curious as I couldn't make out a whole lot from the companies website.

    Here is the link for the hammock/tarp: http://www.crazycreek.com/products-p...ib-lex-w-tarp/

    I bought a Crib (not the Lex) and Tarp on Ebay for $30. Worth every penny, but not much more. The hammock is narrow, short, and heavy, and the ends are not gathered, even though the pic looks like they are. The suspension is a 10' long strap that runs through a channel on each end, and that wraps around the tree. I cannibalized the straps for use with my HHDJ and plan to use the hammock as a gear hammock.

    The tarp is actually OK, at least IMO, but probably a bit heavy for gram weenies.

    I have pics of the hammock, but they are on the home computer. I'll post later this PM.

    I had the tarp that is pictured above, but didn't like it. The "wings" or beaks at the ends limits how close you can hang your tarp and hammock. It would be fine for good weather, but if raining and you want to hang high and tight to the tarp, you may find it hard to do. I also noticed a few small holes in the stiching, some sil would probably fix it. This was a used tarp that I picked up, and it may not be the norm with this company.

    OK;

    Here's pics of the Crib. I'm not sure that this is the same as the "Lex", but it does appear that the Lex is a Crib with spreader bars and a hoop supported bug net.

    It is rectangular, dimensions are 45" wide x 96" long.

    As you can see, the straps run through the channel on the ends, and there is a 6" x 6" reenforcement at each corner:

    Apparently, it gathers itself when hung:

    Again; I've been thinking of using this as a gear hammock, or possibly to support a PLUQ by running some shock cord through the channels.

    I haven't actually put it up sith the hammock. I've been using the stock tarp on the HH as a top cover b/c of the cold weather. But I've rigged the tarp so that the lower tie out at the beak forms a "V"

    I think I can get the suspension right about there and get it close enough. If we can get a day or so without rain, I'll try it out.

    The hammock looks similar to my Outpost Deluxe, but the OPD is a far better quality, I think. Also my suspension is with tree straps and a small clip and cinch called a "lock and load" belt. I'll stick with my OPD, thanks.

    Poof used a Crazy Creek Crib this past weekend on Roan Mountain, that's what we put inside the Western Mountaineering Ponderosa (sleeping bag) to act as a pod. I've used it in the past the same way. Its not a bad hammock, could be lighter but you can give it a major weight reduction by using whoopies. The lay reminds me most of a Speer 8.5 hammock--compared to a Blackbird its no where as comfortable, compared to the ground it is wonderful.

    I have a Crazy Creek LEX I bought years ago. It is heavy and not only hard to put the bug net poles in, but hard to keep from kicking them out of their "slots" while moving around. Another annoying thing is that the zipper is on top, and you really have to work to pull it over the bug net poles. My hammock has no spreader bars.
    The tarp is pretty nice, but as stated by Roadrunnr72, it is a bit heavy.
    Overall it will do for car camping, but I wouldn't want to lug it on the trail.
