I have 6 kids, all of them grown now, some with their own kids.

Your decision is a piece of cake - stay home with her and consider yourself the luckiest Dad in the world.

Think of all the years ahead that you have when you can go hiking - and compare that to the few, short, precious years you will have with her. They get busy with their own lives when they get grown. Not to mention, that there will be another man in her life sooner than you will want.

Well said. My children are grown and out on their own now. When younger I made choices to miss events like this and can tell you how I regret it now. The trail will still be there, either reschedule or readjust time line. Just my opion.

Show her that your word means something. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. 15 is a time when you want to make sure you have the trust thing down pat.

It meant the world to me when my dad laid down what he wanted to do to spend that time with me. She, even at her age, can truly appreciate that.

x 2 on hike while she's on her trip.

With kids, "days are long and years are short".

Be there when you can. And be glad she's not saying 'why don't you get out of here and go on a hike or something'.
