    Central Park

So, how many of you have hung in Central Park? (New York City)

I am up visiting family and have mine with me and am only 3 blocks from CP.
I am not sure if it is legal or not. Guess I will know tomorrow.

I've only seen it on TV, but from what I've gathered, I don't think I'd want to hang my hammock there... especially w/ the family

That's a once in a lifetime photo op. If anybody says anything you can just say you are a tourist and you didn't know any better.

Hi from Aus, from the propaganda we get I would have thought that CP would be the last place you would want to hang.
Isn't it supposed to be very dangerous and all?

I spent much of my childhood in New York City climbing on all the big boulders strewn about Central Park and going to festivals and the zoo with my dad, in the early eighties Central Park was much worse before Mayor Giuliani' office cleaned up the city, now much of NYC is yup catered Starbuckland so I'm sure you'll be safe hanging in the nations most popular public park. I'd worry more about city residents laughing at you with intrigue more than messing with you.

Central Park is huge. There are places where it is perfectly safe to be. There are places wherde even the cops don't like to go. To characterize "Central Park" by any one label is do an injustice to the whole. I don't know the park well enough to discuss the various locations. But it is true that there iare different sections.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I lived in NYC from '83 until '89 and found Central Park to be my only forest. In those days we considered south of the Great Lawn (around 86th St. south) to be the safest areas. Never had a problem. Do your thing.... New Yorkers have seen it all and tourists expect to see it all.
CP is a terrific place but as anywhere just be aware and act as if you belong where you are.....
Have a wicked hang NYC style. Grab a hot dog at Papaya King on the corner of 86th and Lexington and go relax.
