    'Doomsday' hammock sighting

OK, this means you guys caught me ... I was watching Doomsday Preppers on Discovery. This guy was showing off his survival gear in preperation for somesort of apocalyptic event. He was testing stuff in his driveway, and there was a 'jungle' type hammock in the back ground. They even showed him getting in to it and zipping it up, but didn't make any real reference to the hammocks place in his 'prepping'. (There didn't appear to be any UQ, Dutchware or Whoopies on it that I could tell.) It was cool just seeing it up nonetheless. I soon realized why there was no reference to it ... his plan was to bug out into the desert with the family - no trees!

If any of you see/saw this, let me know what brand that was please.

Side note & spoiler alert: This guy talked about being prepared for anything, and was displaying his families firearms skills while in the desert. While Discovery was filming this, he basically shot his thumb off - well a portion of it anyways. Ouch! He claimed it misfired while his thumb was over the barrel. Doh! Looks like he'll have plenty of time to recoup in the hammock!

If this guy visits here ... I hope your wound heals up!

Ouch. I'm pretty sure that surviving a zombie apocalypse would entail not accidentally shooting oneself... interesting story. Thanks for posting.

Sounds like a classic Homer Simpson 'Doh!' moment. Made me laugh out loud
I can't buy something without first considering whether I could just make it myself instead. How'd I get so screwed up?

Nothing smarts quite like shooting off your own thumb during a firearm demo. Not only hurts the thumb, but bruises the pride, too. Especially when you do it on the Discovery Channel (in HD!).

Rule #1 is make sure your bunker location has a good water source. He is planning a desert location?
Rule #2 is don't mishandle firearms and disable yourself or family/friends. EVER!

Hmmm...wonder how ready he is for this (fill in the blank) disaster? I'll be heading somewhere other than where he (or others like him) are and it will handle hammocks too.

Planning to be able to survive and actually being able to survive are 2 different things.

In his case his survival notes might read... Remember to not shoot thumb, it hurts.

I've been looking online for jungle hammocks and can't seem to find one that looks like his. I am just courious what type of gear he had, they didn't zoom in, or spend more than a few seconds on it.

Bruises the pride? I'd say it beats it, bruises it, cuts it into itty bitty pieces and buries it alive!

Good show - I haven't seen that episode yet though.

I also enjoy Man Woman Wild - they quite frequently use a nylon string hammock and that guy loves him some "550" cord. At least they aren't afraid to say "We would have died." Several episodes didn't go so well. Hehe. Illustrates that even if your skill set is great, survival depends on many factors - one of which is luck.

Don't judge, he was thinking ahead for when food got scarce.
