Winter yeti as an all-season UQ?

Hey all,

Kinda looking for some feedback from those who have used a winter yeti as their year round UQ. Currently looking to purchase a quilt with my tax refund. I'm kinda a warm sleeper, which is why I am looking a 3/4 length. Plus the fact that I don't have unlimited funds and would like to find something for multiple seasons. Figured for an extra $25 why not get the winter yeti for year round use.

I realize that mid to late summer I could probably get away with a ccf pad or no pad at all. Curious if those who use the yeti full-time find it too warm or does it work fine with venting?

I've been known to use my Winter Yeti year-round; usually on accident.

It works fine in any weather where you would need an underquilt. It isn't "ideal" because you'll probably wake from time to time to either vent, or seal it back up. Usually, I find a good balance after 2, or 3 adjustments. On warmish nights when I'm using the Winter Yeti, the topquilt generally ends up down at my feet. But to directly answer your question: yes, it will work for you year-round with minor adjustments.

That's what I've got. I just vent the top quilt during the night. It's no different than being at home. If it gets hot I just throw a leg out from under the covers.

Hammocks are so comfortable, being warm enough over and in an UQ, that they extend the camping season. So, go for the winter Yeti, since it will likely reduce the amount of the top quilt you need by more than $25 worth and 6oz of weight cost.

OTOH, I'm almost disappointed that with this winter's weather in NJ there hasn't been a night with temps below 14F and no more than 5 with temps below 20F. A snug 20F UQ has been enough. But, the OP has a better chance of catching Arctic cold.

Winter has been a bust here also tbh, 42 here today; week ago it was in the mid 50s. I guess being new to hammocking, it's difficult to get a grasp on how much heat is trapped within the UQ never having used one. I realize it's difficult to try and convey it on a msg board from your guys' perspective also.

As DemostiX said, just go lighter on your TQ. I've done it in summer with my winter Yeti & just left the TQ off until around 1, when the temperature took a slide.

A little venting, or pull it up slightly, like Brandon shows on his Yeti video on his site.
