    Opinions on Kelty Noah 9

I am looking to upgrade my tarp from the cheap blue heavy WalMart tarp I have been using. My budget is tight so trying to keep it in the $40-$60 dollar range. Since my wife's thread injector is in need of service the DIY route would be tough. I have been looking at a few different options online. So far I am leaning towards the Kelty Noah 9. I like the many tie out points on it to give many options as I will need to go to ground from time to time.

Any users of this tarp that can give me some input on how this tarp has performed for you?

The Noah 9 is a popular choice, tough as nails. Another to consider is the HH Hex (polyester) which is $70. Compare the coverage to see what you prefer (they weigh the same).

I preferred the Noah 12' when I had one. The 9 was too small for my liking. Awesome tarp that can offer some cool setups with all the tie outs. I loved it but it got eliminated for being too heavy.

Noah 9 is our car camping tarp. ( for backpacking have lighter tarp )

We have two. One for each hammock. ( Once used both together to make rain direction wall with one. )

Use in diamond setup. Easy to raise to porch mode
Two hammock can be hung under one. Hammocks sharing one tree at one end.

The best part is how beautiful the set up is. Like a bird taking flight.

The chinook tarp is pretty good. I have not used it with my hammock yet but I have used canoe camping and it is good quality for the price.

I looked at the Chinook tarp but really like all the tie out points on the Kelty for close the same price. The weight is listed as 1lb 7oz. I know I could go lighter with a more expensive piece of gear. Just cant afford that yet. Saw a few reviews saying it did not do well in rain and a few that it was good in rain so seems to be mixed signals on that.

Seems that it will be a good choice until I can either DIY or buy a lighter solution. I am ok with the weight until then.

I have the Noah12 and love it as a 4 season tarp. The tie-outs are GREAT! There are so many different configurations you can use this tarp in. I like multipurpose gear and the Noah tarps are great for all kinds of camping. It is a tad heavier than the more expensive options, but not enough to justify the $$$ if your backpacking budget is tight. The Noah9 would be a great 3 season, and would work in a pinch in even the most nasty weather. Just batten down the hatches, might not be very roomy, but it would get you through.

I have the Noah 12 as well. Love the tarp. I bought it on sale and paid $50. Go with the 12, you'll be glad you did.
