I've modded several blue wallyworld tarps over the past year or so. Very sturdy and waterproof but also pretty heavy and they definitely don't roll or fold down small. Great for car camping, not so much for backpacking.
I'm playing with tyvek now. Tough stuff and waterproof. So far tie-out attachments made with various tapes haven't worked out so well. I just picked up some off of fleabay that are supposed to be 'permanent' once attached. I stuck 'em on the tarp this past weekend but haven't had a chance to string it up or sleep under it yet. That should happen this weekend. If the stick-on tabs don't work there's always the old reliable pebble and string method.
