That was one of my a-ha moments and the last step in getting a consistent fit every time. You still have tweaks every time but the general steps for success are there to be tweaked as needed.

Have you seen shugs video about UQs? I think it is just the way that you have you underquilt suspended that is making that happen. I could be wrong but something just doesn't look right in that picture.

Yes. I've been studying this for a while and have had people make adjustments to UQs I'm using on each of my trips over the past six months in order to learn from others. Bottom line is an UQ can only conform to convex and flat surfaces. Draft tubes at the ends can solve that problem.

In the photo, I'm positioning myself so the calf ridge is at it's max. In practice i could shift to make a lot of that go away but I don't like being restricted to only certain positions as I sleep. My goal is to get the UQ to work for any way I choose to sleep.

Im on a winter camp with the scout troop in my 20° zepplin uq and i have a draft at the leg ridge (calve pressure area). How do i fix before i freeze to deatu?

I was testing out a new JRB MT3 UQ and encountered the same issue with my WBBB 1.7 dbl. It felt like cold air was being funneled down the center of the hammock from the gathered center foot end (hitting me right behind the knees). I adjusted the UQ by cinching down the foot area, but still got the same problem. I was in 20 degree range as well.

The next day I got out an started really looking at the problem. What I discovered was that the foot box (where my feet were, in my sleeping bag) was causing the center hammock material to bunch up in the middle. Basically I was getting a bunch of material folding up like an accordion, right down the middle of the hammock, from my butt to the foot end of the hammock. I couldn't feel the bunching due to the sleeping back except for a slight extra press behind my knees. The cold air was being drawn down the center from the gathering material.

To solve this, you have to make sure that you stretch out all of the material in the center by using your feet to push the material towards the foot box. Once the material is no longer gathered, you get a smooth surface and the UQ can do it's job.

This is a problem that I will look out for in the future. It made for an uncomfortable night.
