    With the net cut wide enough to allow the tie outs, without the tie outs, it will be in your face as you have found.

    You can try out your idea of taking up the slack net by shock cording to the ridgeline by manually pulling the net up to see if it works or using a pebble bunched in the net to attach the shock cord.
