    TQ footbox sewn vs cinched

I'm about to make a top quilt. I've seen a number of designs that cinch the bottom to create a footbox rather than sew one permanently. Obviously this allows one to flatten the quilt... Anyone find they actually use the quilt in a flattened configuration?

Are there other advantages? What are the disadvantages?

I like to have the ability to vent in 3 season conditions. This is so I can cool down my quilt when needed. Having a cinched end gives me that ability.

However, if you're making a winter one than I would suggest sewing that puppy. It's not have your feet nice in toasty in those cold conditions.

I'll be making a summer TQ soon and will be making it with a sewn footbox. I've never understood the appeal of the cinched style. If I get warm, I uncover myself.

And when did something being easy mean I'd do it...ask my wife, I'm always doing things the hard way.

I get what you're saying. HYOH, but as someone whose feet tend to stay cool, I like the sewn footbox.

I have a 3-season TQ button up.. wish it were sewn.. thought I'd like to vent.. found it's easier to move my leg than reach down and mess with it.. smarter not harder for me, is a sewn. Regardless of season. Have never used it flat other than doing it because I could. Is not adventageous for me.

If your hot natured, and sleep hot,,buttoned and cinched is great until you get to the Colder climates,,say a 20 degree,,if your cold sleeper,,sewed is the only way to go. I have them both ways for me and the wife,,she is hot natured,,I am cold.

I like being able to use it like a regular quilt when not in the hammock I like the snapped footbox myself.
