Went to purchase some Gutermann tread today at my local sew shop and I was informed that most of it sold in the states was made in Mexico and not very consistent any more. Suggested I buy Mettler instead.

Interested in others' info on this, too.
(Note: the four stars in the upper right corner were donated by me. I saw a button that said "Rate Thread" so I clicked it.)

Uh-oh-- is there going to be a run on Gutermann's now? I think I'll go empty out Joanns tomorrow. Does it say on the spool if it's made in mexico?
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Thanks, Dutch. I just got some from Scott at DIYgearsupply - two types, "Mara" and "Tera", all clearly marked "Made in Germany".
I know most of my threads come straight from Germany, except the mara 70 black, which they stock here in the stateside warehouse, but I'll check in with them to see what this is about. They may be sending some of the most common ones down south for production. Usually the Gutermann's that Jo-Ann's and other larger sewing stores carry is their Mara 100, which is a tex 30.

The roll I just used kept having a strand break while I was um.."injecting" it. then bunch up at the needle eye .. PTA.. Don't know where it was made .. I'm en route now to Arkansas so that'll have to wait..

using too fine of a needle for the heavier thread will cause that too I've found... The smaller eye puts too sharp a bend in the thread when driving through the tough materials we're using and it breaks a strand. Creates a real mess on the backside with tension etc...
I just switch to a size larger needle if that happens, clears it up.
mounting needle wrong (even professional have doneit) is a common cause but so are needle spurs/burrs. A small eye makes thins even worse... but all it takes uss a small wear burr that you can hardly see and you will go bonkers. New needles when this happens is the first fix.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
