    New Beginner Hammock Camper

Hello from Thomasville NC. I am a new beginner so to speak to hammock camping. My brother Bubba Shmubba has recruited me to hammock camping and I am excited about learning all the tips and having some great times in the NC woods. I am on a limited budget and am a bit overwhelmed at the cost of putting together the gear needed to get started. I hope to have gear ready for a memorial weekend trip to the woods I am starting from scratch and my plan is to add a piece at a time until I get myself set up. This is a great place to learn and meet fellow hammock campers and I look forward to making new friends and sharing my experiences as a newbie.

    Welcome to the forum!
You have come to the right place to get started. Check out the For Sale forum on a regular basis and you can pick up some really good gear.
Being in NC, you'll find plenty of opportunities to hang.
Search the threads for some group hangs like Linville Gorge.

If you're close enough, you can get it on this one on the Chattooga River, right in the corner where GA, NC, and SC all meet.

    Welcome aboard matey!

Keep your eyes out for deals and priority where you can save the most weight for the least money (like your pack/insulation (you don't HAVE to get an UQ to be comfy. My brother used thermorest pad on our last gorge outting and worked great for him, 45.00, there are cheaper ways still)

You'll have a nice little collection of gear before you know it and ready to hit the woods. Hope to see you at the hang this spring

Welcome to HF from Bama...............the starting costs can be overwhelming, but if you have some gear...old sleeping bag, CCF pad, wally world blue trap, etc.......you will be fine. Check out the videos for newbies in the video section and also check out "the Ultimate Hang" from Derek Johanson, great read. Good luck in the purchases and enjoy the time in the woods.
