    Chicago to BWCA or bust

I've tented in the BW several times and now want to actually sleep. Starting minimally I've bought a Byers Mosquito and the matching hanging cords. They worked great on my porch this weekend for a short nap without the bug net. I'm considering using my rain fly from a Eureka 2person tent as a tarp, but I'm not sure the shape will work well, though it should be big enough. Today I saw an 8 x 10 nylon tarp at LLBean for $40 that might work, though it seemed heavy at 1lb 11oz. I love the info on this site, and expect soon to know more information than I can use. I still need to learn how to set up the tarp, whether to use a ridgeline or not, what insulation to use, and lots of other tips and tricks. I now know what a prusik knot is and a figure 9 dealy bob. Some of the jargon is unfamiliar, but let me at the glossary. I feel as if I am among fellow travelers here and not a stranger in a .... I love advice, so bring it on. Todd

Welcome to the forum! I'm a frequent visitor to the boundary waters myself. It's a great place to hang. If you have questions, there are a lot of paddlers here who hang up north.

Welcome aboard. Love me some BWCA, and I hammock while I'm there. I've got a few BWCA trip reports on my youtube page if you want to check them out. If you don't have "The Ultimate Hang" book yet, thats worth your time, heaps of good info in there. In fact I currently use the continuous tarp RL described on pg 71 of the book, its a pretty slick way to hang the ol' tarp.
    Good luck,

    Thanks all

In response to some of your posts: I found this site through the BWCA forum and it may have been Lympho who put me on to this site.
I just finished going through the acronym page, which made my head spin, but I was surprised at how many I already had picked up.
The biggest challenge for me will be to hold back on my spending. I'm something of a serial hobbyist (fishing, guitar, woodworking...), and that gets expensive. And no, I don't want to take up sewing. (Yet)

    Hey Todd

Welcome! I actually started hanging last year in the bwca almost by accident. I was sharing a tent if I slid one way I rolled down hill the other roots in my back. I had my Grand trunk (GT) ultra light (UL) set up for afternoon naps. It never occurred to me to sleep in it, I awoke one night to my tent mate snoring horribly, my ear plug had fallen out. It was about 5am so I got up took my pad and sleeping bag to the hammock to "wait" for everyone else to get up. At 10:00 they woke me up to go fishing. I was forever sold on my hammock, when I got home I started looking for a mosquito hammock and found this page. You will find nearly everyone to be more than helpful. Read up do research and check the for sale thread.
