I just like to fiddle and mess with my gear Although changing my suspension over to whoopies has made adjustments much easier and faster. Mostly just a fiddlier on my part though.

Stock WBBB with straps and buckles. Works fine.
    Stock underquilt, works fine.

My only mod was to cut a foot and a half off the hammock webbing straps to save a little weight when backpacking.

but don't get me started on stoves...

You don't need to do any modifications to sleep well on a hammock.
It's just that hammocks are more fun to tinker with than tents.

You can cut a few ounces off the weight, cut a few second off your setup time, make your straps removable so they can be stored separately after being coated with pine sap

    You get the idea.

i only modify my gear to make my set up faster. all ive done is change the end chanels of my eno to paracord, made a bishop bag for my hammock and skins for my tarp. i dont plan on doing it more any time soon. any hammock is fine out of the box... if they werent, the companies, esp are little cottage places, fix it.

I started with an ENO, I had to modify it. It came with no suspension just some carabiners that weighed a ton. I put whoopies on it and sewed a bug net on loved it..... till i got a WBBB. Then the DYI began! Its an addiction, hobby, sport and a passion. Just start and hang everything will fall into place.
