Wanting to replace alum shepard hook stakes

I use the cheap alum stakes right now because it's what I had. We've got some areas of sandy soil but I've also ran into areas where it was really hard ground also.

Suggestions please? Looking for stronger and possibly lighter if possible.

I found some Coleman stakes that are like the MSR (tri stakes) at Target. They have worked nice for me. Papa Smurf makes titanium stakes and Lawson (Mountainfitter) (forum members) also makes titainium stakes as well. I thinke the hammock forums store has tri stakes for sale as well!

They do. But you can find similar versions at the HF store as well as DIYgearsupply.

I still use cheapo Aluminium wire stakes from Wal-mart & the Coleman Y-stakes from Target. I typically take 4 of each with me on most trips. The wire stakes for harder ground and the Y-stakes for softer ground. It works out well for me. Yeah it's a few extra ounces but it beats bending a Y-stake in hard ground or resetting wire stakes in soft ground.

I've been looking at the Vargo Ti stakes @ Z-packs. One of these days I'll probably upgrade to Ti but for now these serve me fine.

It inspired me to rethink more variety on my pegs, Currently, I'm running a mix of ground hogs and gutter spikes. Having a winter tarp and a WBBB it means I have a total of 14 possible stake points. That's a lota stakes!!! I don't carry more than 10 but I did decide to half size (4") a number my gutter spikes. They still hold well because of their diameter but don't really need to be 7" long to hold a door tie out or BB pull out. Also being short, they're more resistant to bending than the thinner shepherds hooks.

My over under on stake use is typically 8.

So I knocked 1.5 ounces off my stake bag, not a bunch but at least I'm moving back in the right direction again.

Aluminum gutter nails are nice. Some folks use chop sticks. I use 4 carbon fiber stakes (9 inch ones) that I bought several years ago from TiGoat. They work great in deep forest duff that requires a long stake and they only weight about 1/3 ounce each.

I used MSR tri stakes for years.
Last yr tried the Ti shepherd hook stakes. Gave them away on the PIF.
Back to using my standard....
