One of my best friends lives in Cape Town and I was just in your neck of the woods last year where I took this photo.

Welcome from Canada! Can't watch vids right now but I'll check them out later.

Hello, and welcome!
I too hail from ADV. Some friends and I take an annual trip around Oregon/Washington/Idaho/Montana and I took a cheap-o hammock last year. I had a hard time even getting a turn in it.
This year will be my first year using just my hammock setup for DS riding, so we'll see how it goes. I'm loving that everything fits in my panniers now too!
Good luck here and have fun.
Also - What kind of bike are you on? You guys have much better choices than us here in the US...

Your setup looks great
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own
