Superfly Questions

I have been searching for answers and decided to ask the opinions of the more Experienced Superfly Users.

I was sort of thinking I wanted a Ridge Line to attach my Superfly with (Not came in the mail yet, just already making plans)

I know it is designed to use tie outs at each end.

Any thoughts, suggestions, pros and cons?

You can use a continuous ridgeline if you want to. In terms of strength, its not needed as the grosgrain on the tarps seam acts as a ridgeline when the ends are tied off. Whether you use an above the tarp or a below the tarp continuous ridgeline is personal preference. The Superfly's ridgeline is made with a slight catenary curve so an above the tarp continuous ridgeline is what I would use but either way works. There are a lot of threads discussing the merits of either above or below set ups so do a search for more opinions.

The Superfly is a great tarp, good choice! I originally rigged it up with a continuous ridgeline and prussics for adjustment, but after time, I have started using two separate tie-outs with Dutch's tarp flies. I find that it is easy to adjust, and WB's tarps are made to be pitched tight, and nothing slips this way.

Actually, I have been reading them. Sifting through the threads can be a pain. But I think you may have answered the question for me. Not sure why I was not wrapping my head around an over the tarp ridge line and my concerns were with the curve in the tarp ridge.

I think I will set up using that method and give it a try.

I had concerns with ease of adjustments. Hence the whole ridge line debate I was having with myself.

I will certainly try going that route first, before I set up a Ridge Line. I have some small figure nine I can play with for testing purposes.

+1. Definitely some advantages to a continuous ridgeline (in this case, mostly the ability to slide the tarp back and forth for easier adjustments over the hammock), but I find it's easier to get a taut pitch by just tying off at the ends. It's designed to be able to be used that way (tying off from the end) and I find it's easiest for me.

I used to use an above the tarp ridgeline but now I just tie off the ends. I have prusiks on each end of the tarp and simply slide the prusiks to centre and tighten the tarp. It's just as easy as it is with an above the tarp ridgeline only without the extra line that goes over the tarp.

Been thinking about getting a superfly to lighten my pack weight, how sturdy are they? They look perfect but I tend to be a bit clumsy and dont want to ruin it.

Very sturdy tarp. Good for all weather conditions for me. I bought one and liked it enough to get a second one for my daughter.

They are much lighter than a blue tarp at 19 oz; however, this doesn't include the lines.

For about half the weight (and three times the price) you can get a Cuben Fiber Tarp, which will weigh about 9oz.
