I've read that Mayan families sometimes slept across the width of wide hammocks and doubtless managed to make little Mayans in the same location.

For a few years I worked with autistic and other kids requiring behavior modification.

Theraputically and at other times during the cooling off period of an especially strong tantrum the kids would go, always willingly, into and lay across a short wide hammock-device (sometimes feet out one end) to cool down in a dark womb-like gently rocking setting.

Procipriation (sensing where you are in space) was another fairly common problem the hammock-device seemed to help.... the kids' heads would be slightly out for that.
