Bear Mtn NY Hang - 3/24/12

    Hey Guys,

Thinking of doing an overnighter at Bear Mountain on 3/24/12. Gear Slug and the Captain may come. Just wanted to know if any other hangers in the area wanted to meet up for a hike and hang.

Could be Bear Mtn to West Mtn Shelter or beyond. Open to suggestions as I've done that run more than a few times already. It is challenging for those who have never done that but the rewards are awesome views if its a clear day out.

I'll be at the Bear Mountain Inn around 8am Saturday March 24th.

    Holla at your Monkey,

    Raul

I'll throw this on the schedule as tentative, I have wanted to hike that part for awhile now...

The trail on Bear Mountain changed offically in 2011 so the views are much better up and down the mountain. West Mountain is the devil but has some sick views.

Black Mountain has a really great ridge walk... if anyone wants to put in a 10 mile day. However William Brien Shelter is almost always a dump unfortunately.

Russ and I were on West Mountain last weekend. The night was frigid and clear so the view was magnificent! the NYC view is like looking at OZ!!!

Yeah I've been there about 4 times. 3 of the 4 times it was awesome due to it being clear. Actually near the end of June there is a restaurant to the left in the harbor and they have a fire work show. Caught the show twice from West Mountain. The Captain was with me the first time and I was like hey check it out fire works... he instinctively looked UP... I said no no no we are too high up, look down LOL.

I've got a trip to the Adirondacks in limbo. If it fall's through, this could be my March outing.

    Raul and all,

We, my hiking partner and I, are looking for an AT hike in March.
This is a place we have hiked, but a good idea.
Or meeting up with the jerzybears in the Catskills : Devil's Path Trail the next weekend March31-April1
    on a loop trail ( ? ? ).

I am so jealous! Some of my fondest hiking memories took place on Bear Mt back in the day. We once overnighted there when it dipped below 0*. Pretty chilly for me. We would take the train from the city Saturday morning and walk across that very high bridge. Then catch the train back on Sunday afternoon. Good times.

I'll keep an eye on this. Trying to arrange a trip on the AT to Schagticoke Mountain in Connecticut for the weekend of 3/17, but if that falls through, this sounds good!

I thought about it too to meet up with JerzyBears but the 3.5 hour drive kinda turned me off just for an overnighter. I can make it to Bear Mtn in 1.5 hours. BUT after researching Devil's Path I am sold on this end to end hike and I will plan to hike this before 2012 is over.... just a matter of when.
