    underquilt too hot?

I am unique just like every one else and not keen on spending gobs of money on stuff that may not work. After my experience last night and with the "warm" comments made about underquilts -- well its what I am investigating. Would a 0* underquilt be too warm for year round use? That is my question.

I have done some searching to find the answer without success.

I know I am a warm sleeper. I made it through 5 hours at 20* with a fleece blanket and an old army 30* mummy bag as a top quilt. I didnt have a cold buttocks (butt was fine) but rather a cold spot on my shoulder.

I do have the hennessy deep jungle and a big reason to get that was to put something in the double bottom for some insulation.(in my excitement to order I neglected to add the double bubble foil insert that I assumed came with the hdj when I customized to the hex tarp)

    Thanks for the help!

I know people who use one year and you could also use a pad for summer if you felt the UQ would be too warm for those hot nights. I think where you are in Minnesota, you will be just fine.

I am a warm sleeper and I have used my 0 degree Incubator indoors (55 degree room) without any trouble. Only a light top covering is needed to stay warm. Logically, it's not much different than a bed in that a mattress is very good under insulation. The way to regulate your temperature is by altering your top insulation.

    IMO it would be overkill.
Plus who would want to pack and carry something so big and heavy when not needed.

I hang year round in the Colorado Mtns and find 20 degree full length quilts work fine.
You can add clothing to suppliment your warmth and best of all leave them at home when you don't need them.
    YMMV

I use my winter yeti year round here in B.C. but often I slide it off to the side or use no top insulation. It vents real well but has been too warm a couple time. But as I said I just pull it off to the side. I don't kow how a full length would work. I always bring it for "just in case" nights, and have never been dissapointed.
I thought I was wrong once, turns out I was wrong about that.

I've used a 0* as high as 65* outside.. pretty much didn't need a TQ at that point.. easy to vent a UQ, harder to get a tight seal than vent the UQ. I found it very comfortable personally and like knowing I don't need to spend MORE money or carry extra pads and stuff when I go out, regardless of time of year. HYOH

Underquilts are useable at temps well above their rating if you vent them properly at the edges. I opt for the 20* quilts, but 0* will work just fine year round.

I have my HG Incubator 0* set up in the garage, where it's 58*. Perfect.

I used it at 15*. Perfect.

Might be a little heavy for this summer, but with venting it will work great.

I went from a CCF pad to down. Gone is the clammy back.
