Catskill hike into the Devil's Kitchen Mar 31-Apr 1

Well...picked up my doctor's leave note for my operation on 3 Apr. and I will be off the trail for one month. So, Russ and I decided to do an overnight to the Devil's Kitchen lean-to on the Devil's Path in the Catskills in NY and would like to put out the offer for company. This is a Saturday hike in on the 31st and a Sunday hike out.

This is an easy access from Prediger Road with a large parking area. The hike follows the red trail (devil's path) and connects to the blue (long path). Signs are everywhere and its impossible to get lost.

This hang area has lots of trees, babbling brook and outhouse..(never overestimate the value of an outhouse!) The hang area is above the lean-to. If you are interested, by all means come along.

Yup I am way overdue for a relaxing hang. That sounds like a great area, I always wanted the Catskills to be another outdoor option. Gonna start to make some meals dehydrate for the year.

    JerzyBears,

We are thinking about this hike on March31.
    2.5+hour drive.
Perhaps BobO and I would go up Friday and meet you on Saturday.
Like that it is a loop ( if I have read the info correctly ).

We are section hiking the AT, so Raul's Bear Mt hike is also a consideration.
    March 25. 1.5+hrs drive
We have hiked that part of the AT already but at least it is the AT.

Will let you know after we figure out the month.
Expect in either case it is more evening hanging out together than actual hiking.

Enjoyed hanging with the both of you JerzyBears in PA in Feb.

Glad to see you coming Vito! I purposely set this up so you guys in Albany NY area can get out w/o spending a fortune. Been all over Harriman and want to send some love to the majorly depressed Catskill area. I will have to see if Fred can come.

Hey, how about we drop our gear off at the Kitchen and do an Indian Head summit? Won't need the crampons in late March (I hope..) It's a bit tricky. Pack a peak bag!

This was the Devils Path last week..Ya just never know..Think it is snowing like the dickens this weekend too. C'mon..who wants to live forever!!!!

    .
If you come early, you can stay on the Devil's Path and spend Friday at Echo Lake. There is a lean-to there to cook in and a camp area for hammocks. That lake is really pretty and we had yearlings walk up to us there. \

If not, take the Devil's Path and consider the summits of Sugarloaf, Twin or Indian Head. Each is over 3500 ft. and beautiful views.

    JerzyBears,

BobO is inclined to stick to hiking the AT on sections we have not yet hiked.
Expect this is what our March hike and hang will be.

    Invite : AT-NY-NJ section hike-hang. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=48428

Hope to see you at the Spring MAHHA.
Will combine the hang with a family visit in central PA.

I'm looking forward to it. I just have to find out how to get there.
