I've always used prusics but found as my cordage is getting smaller the knots are getting harder to work.

I like the look of the Klem, how many wraps do I need on 1.8mm cord?

Hey Red, with the Distel are you using mini carabiners on the tarp? Have you put fixed eyes in the end of your cord or used knots?

I spliced the eyes in the line with a locked brummel and about 1" of bury and I use a mini carabiner. The line with the fixed eyes in each end is about 12" which is plenty long for easy tying, yet not too long when you take the slack out of the knot.
    Good luck,

Last weekend I found myself needing to "prussik" tarp tie-outs onto the 3mm dyneema hammock suspension. The only cord handy was 3mm nylon paracord, which I normally use with a 4 turn prussik onto a tarp ridgeline of the same material. A 4 turn prussik would not lock onto the dyneema, so, remembering this thread, I tried a Distel Hitch.

The results were disappointing. Both ends of the tarp seemed to lock when first set up, but by the morning one had slipped loose and would not lock again when pulled back into position.

The other end was still locked tight, but I could see it had slipped 50mm overnight. It proved difficult to untie; fingernails were needed.

It was a short test, and probably not with the best material, but I wont be trying a Distel Hitch again.

I have a short length of cord tied to each end of my tarp at the ridgeline tieout points. I just use an adjustable grip hitch to connect that to my CRL. It's really easy, strong, and quick.

I tried them once; broke both the same night. Went back to the original Fig 9s. Otherwise, this is the same way I roll. Although, if I'm being truthful, I think I've only got one tarp with Fig 9s on it anymore. I like them Tarp Flyz that Mr. Easy On The Eyes makes.
Ditto and ditto. I used plastic fig 9's in some fugly weather with no problem. And then had one snap during fair weather set up. Stuck with the plastics until my TarpFlyz showed up.

Figure 8 knots, they're a lot easier then you think...
I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've brought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!

I use the adjustable grip hitch. This vid is the closest thing I found (skip to 4:22)

Quick release. Only tensions 1-way, but you only need to tension the tarp to the ridgeline in 1 direction. Pops off nice and quick in the morning. It's best to go ahead and make it bind after tying it *before* pulling the tarp taut on the ridgeline.

I use this for the ridgeline "prussics" as well as guy lines. Makes adjusting guyline tension trivial and you can even leave the adjustable loops tied when you strike camp and stow the gear -- ready for the next night.

I realize this is an old thread, but I just discovered the Distel Hitch. I've only tried 3/32" paracord on 7/64" Amsteel (to hang my tarp on my suspension) but it is so much better than either the Prusik or the Klemheist. I just want to add to the chorus of those who have recommended it. Another nice thing is that by leaving it tied in my whoopie sling's adjustable loop, the loop won't pull through! I've lost two whoopie slings that way.
