    Insulex

How effective is a single layer of Insulex? also is the stuff so fuzzy that you absolutely must sew some kind of liner on the outside of it? Im wondering if I can just task a big hunk of it for augmenting my insulation from time to time, and if I can use it like a woobie.

Insultex isn't fuzzy. It doesn't need a liner if you don't want one. Many have a sheet to augment their insulation. I don't believe 1 layer will get you down very far - 10 or 15 degrees? Most underquilts are 3 layer and are generally good down to low 40's. It's really thin stuff and very light.
    Here's a good thread http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=23881

Hope this helps. Do a search for IX and you should find quite a few threads.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

The polyester scrim is kinda fuzzy... snags on anything snaggable, including poorly trimmed fingernails (don't ask)

I'd line the people-side if using it for a top quilt.

I made a double layer top quilt without lining it - no issues except I doesn't keep me very warm.
If I were to use it in an underqulit where it would come in contact with the ground, vegetation, leaves & pine straw, I would definitely line the outside with nylon.

Sounds like in any rate I can use it to augment the insulation I already do have with no problem. How well does the stuff compress? Just enough to be compressed while also making you wish you could afford more down? Hahahahaha

It doesn't compress - its just like a sheet of plastic. Just fold it and roll it up.
