    Changed Jungle Hammock

I just ordered another Jungle Hammock and I received this notice from Tom:
We have modified and strengthened the Jungle Hammock. The two bottom layers are now stitched together for added strength. This means there is no longer a foam pad sleeve. I would appreciate your comments and feedback on this modification when you get your hammock.
Has anyone else gotten one without the pad pocket?

Ouch! I'm not sure that was a good move on Tom's part unless he had to do this.

My response would be either 1. give me the hammock for FREE and I'll review it or 2. Provide me the product you advertise on your website or 3. Refund my $$.

If he has sewn these together, I'm happy I received my Jungle before he took away one the best features

I agree that is not a good move on Tom's part. The dual layer design that would hold a pad was a huge selling point for his hammocks. Makes the DD hammock look that much more attractive.

I also agree, though I have always thought the sleeve would be better if opened at only the ends instead of all the way down the lenght. I always sewed velcro there to keep it closed anyway. I wouldn't want it without a pocket. Mule

I have one of these. I ordered it recently and it arrived in this new style. It is extremely nicely made, but I am not sure it's what I want. This is the second hammock I ordered from Tom. The first one has an opening to insert a pad, this one is sewn on all four sides.

I am considering sending it back to Tom, although I haven't actually tried it. Very keen to hear others' opinions.

A major selling point is now gone, no doubt. I can't imagine what he is thinking. Isn't the hammock strong enough as is?

I slept last night in the Jungle hammock, 67*F, with a 20" wide full length Ridgerest between the layers. Though the full length pad was probably not needed in the leg/foot section, it still was my best experience with a pad in a hammock. For pad use, double layer is the way to go.

Well I ordered one last week because it was advertised to have a sleeve for a pad.

If it doesn't I'll attempt to return it.....

Seems like a no reason move. Why eliminate one of the selling features of a hammock...unless there was a durability issue. but if the Claytor needs a double bottom to do what other hammocks do with single bottoms, then something is wrong.

Hell, Clark couldn't even get into backpacker mag review because it didn't have a pad sleeve (yes, that was stupid, but nonetheless the perception of potential hammock purchasers.)

Tom will have to start including a a seam ripper

Neo just called me. I told him about Tom's new design change and he says he is going to straighten Tom out if he can when he gets home from camping tomorrow. All is not lost with Neo on duty. Mule
