This looks like its coming together. Very cool. Thanks everyone.
One set of instructions, copied would be great.
JohnSawyer do you think dejoha would be ok with me asking for his help???? Is he an illustarter, because that would be awesome.

I'm thinking dejoha has already done one (he's done so many maybe I'm just imagining things). I'm probably in. Are we talking just a nice, simple, gathered end deal?

We setup a few guidelines for construction on page 2.
Yes, just a nice gathered end hammock, subdued color, with attached stuffsack and suspension.
You choose the suspension, but it should also be included to make it a one bag setup with everything included.
Thanks for helping.

With suspension...the simpler the better? Are whoopies simple enough? Any thoughts if we should stick with one type over the other? These men and women have enough to worry about in defending our country and way of life, I wouldn't want to add a tricky suspension set up to their plate. Thoughts?...
Also, suppliers of 1.9oz ripstop in "desert" colors?

I spoke with my contact this morning. The Sergeant Majors of the units are now competing and lobbying for their units to get hammocks. So far I have at least 5 who are planning on sending.
There are very few problems we can solve ourselves, but there is almost nothing we cannot solve together.
Most often when someone says they can't, they are unwilling to try.
I'm having trouble sourcing camo for this (which I think would be the most appropriate).
We have the magnafabrics ACU 1.1 camo that I'm probably going to buy a roll of for myself. It is dirt cheap and could probably safely hold a 210 pound person in a single layer but we probably want to make these a bit more solid. The price for this will come to $2+change per yard shipped.
I have seen some other old woodland camo 1.9 oz. for $5-6 plus shipping/yd. Some plain browns would probably come in at the $5-6/yd area too.
Has anyone else found a good (ie. cheap) source of ripstop for this? If not, what does everyone feel about doing a 1.1 DL hammock? It would probably be more comfortable and should hold most any GI that would use it. If I used the Magnafabrics 1.1 then doubling it up would still be cheaper than using a single layer of the other fabrics. It would just take more of my time to sew two layers and sew them together.
I'll be doing some whoopie slings... are we including tree straps as well?
How about a little $5 Walmart inflatable travel neck pillow shoved into the stuff sack for them to use for a pillow?
Just a few thoughts...

Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics has ACU 1.9 ripstop for sale. It is very nice fabric, I have a DL GEH made from the material and it sleeps great. If you order twenty yds of material, it will cost $4.60/yd(their wholesale price). I know this is a large quanty to order but they also have a wonderful coyote brown color that makes a nice hammock as well. Check out the site because you can mix and match to get the wholesale price on your entire order not just the fabric.

I found some camo at the local Mill End store, which I hate shopping at because I get treated like a criminal as soon as I walk through the door.
Also found desert camo but in some weird feeling fabric. Not really good for sleeping on.
As far as suspension goes, simple is best, but I'm pretty sure these guys will figure out how Whoopies work if we include some simple intructions.
Other then the hammock and suspension, anything you want to include should be fine.
I was thinking about tree straps myself. I was thinking these won't just be headed to the sandbox but to troops all over the planet.
So my thought is we could all come up with a decision on straps. What do you all think???
