Want to help our military boys???

After discussing with Injun (I didn't want to hijack his great idea) here are some details.

I spoke with a co-worker, who was the Chief Logistician for all of the forward troops for the USMC. He is well connected and will be providing me with an address to send the hammocks.

He has asked that they all be consolidated and then sent as one shipment. So here is what I propose is that each person that is interested in donating, PM me and I will send them my address, gather the hammocks, (take pictures of course!) and forward them off to the contact.

Injun suggested the following general specs for the hammocks, single layer, 1.9 nylon in subdued colors (think desert) As far as suspension, that is up to you. A stuff sack should be attached for ease of access.

Lastly, a short note with a bit of instructions and encouragement would be great.


Please PM me if you would like to donate a hammock. I will reply with my address. Upon receipt of the hammocks, I will box them up and send them out to the troops.

A proposed mailing date to the troops is May 1, 2012. That should give everyone enough time to construct and mail the hammocks to me.

I am open to any helpful suggestions.

To this point, I have not received any hammocks and only 1 confirmation of someone planning to send via request for mailing address.

I was planning to make mine this weekend and send it off. Let me know if I still need to. I am also making a double layer 1.1 because that is what material I have.

As my First post on this forum its Awesome to see this thread and As a soldier my self this would be a HUGE mental win for anyone over in the sandbox. I want to say THANK YOU because i know how much this would mean to me if i was to receive this! So thank you again and i hope that i can also send something for the Canadian boys and girls fighting for us all over the world!

I appreciate the responses from the few and their willingness to help out. However...

Injun and I have been exchanging messages. The response ended up being very underwhelming. To date I have not received any hammocks and have told my contact not to pursue any further.



For those who would still like to send, I would suggest as others have, to contact your local VFW or USO to have them include your hammock.
