    VIDEO - 3 Season Packload

If you have 19 minutes to spare and you love the idea of watching a pair of talking hands in a grainy video discussing what one person takes into the woods for a three season weekend backpacking trip, you've come to the right place.

I'm not too hung up on weights of things and so forth but I included them for those folks that are.

The last 10 seconds of the video I have my various total weights.

    Baseweight - 19.78 lbs
    Consumables weight - 7.77 lbs
Total packed weight - 27.55 lbs
Total worn weight - 3.6 lbs
    Skin-out weight - 31.15 lbs

I've come to rely on the comfort of some items that others may leave behind to cut weight.

I like to spend quite a bit of time hanging around camp outside of my hammock. I definitely could cut weight by packing less clothing and hop into my hammock as soon as it gets chilly (or use a dual use quilt/jacket), but I'd rather pack a bit of extra weight in additional clothing and be able to hang around the fire until the wee hours if I like.

Also being a bigger guy, clothing items are going to be a couple ounces heavier than the same item for a smaller person (most advertised weights for outdoor clothing is for size M - great example is my down jacket, listed weight - 12.5 oz, my XL Tall - 14.25 oz). A lighter guy could also get away with a 1.1 DL WBBB and shave some ounces off my 1.7 DL WBBB. Food is also an area a bigger guy is going to need a bit more than a smaller person as we burn a bit more calories doing everything.

This is what I have settled on for comfy hanging for me (the only change I see in my future is shaving a couple oz by getting a dedicated 3 season TQ so I don't have to lug my winter TQ out when it's only dipping into the 20's).

I've seen folks with sub 10 lb baseweights and folks with 40-50+ lb baseweights.

All part of the beauty of HYOH.

That's a very nice setup. It's amazingly similiar to my present setup. I too could carry/should carry a lighter pack, but it's nice to have a few comfort features that make the camping experience worthwhile. Great video.
