Keith I also have the protarp and will try your method the next time out. I currently use the hammock ridgeline to hang the tarp over and fold and roll it like it came.

Started out using snake skins for hammock and another set for tarp. I personally found them to be a pain. Have switched to black bishop style stuff sacks for both...much nicer for me.
And +1 on the stuff dont fold.
I stuff and I like Stuffies too.
Trust nobody!
I used to be a folder, I'd slide my tarp along the ridgeline folding it as I went, ending up with a strip about 8" wide, this I'd roll up and then wrap my ridgeline around it.
As I switched to lighter fabrics I've tried to avoid folding on the same lines and have been stuffing instead.
I had snakeskins on my old HH Exped Asym, I didn't really like the bundle you ended up with but it mad sense to use with the HH all-in-one system.
I used to use snakeskins for both tarp and HUBA but now stuff the Hennessy Hex or Kelty Noah 9 into a mesh bishop bag so it can dry more easily.
For many years I have heard the don't fold along the same lines or the fabric (or waterproofing) will wear out. In 40 years, I have never been able to fold any tarp/tent material on the same exact line let alone crease it many times over. I HAVE seen millions of tiny creases on tarps/tents from the stuffing of them. It is highly likely that these millions of little creases will undoubtedly intersect many many times with repeated stuffing. even so, I doubt very much that they will wear thin the material (or waterproofing). Never have I seen anyone's tarp/tent become less water repellent due to either folding or stuffing. In the end, do what works for you the "fears" are highly exaggerated IMO.
before i started using snakeskins, i stuffed. stuffing helps keep the seems from deterirating as quickly as the would folded.

I stuff. Just seems to be the best for me, and besides,,everything stretches back out again near like new anyhow. I do like snake skins on silnylon tarps, they are easy to use, and you can stuff them too,
