    Snake Skins for a BB?

I have them for my tarp but is it feasible to get a set for my BB? If so I'd like to hear the pros and cons.

    Thanks, David

I don't mind them on a tarp because I can have it strung up for quick coverage in the event of wet weather while still seeing stars.

I prefer the bishop style bag on the Warbonnet. It packs easier in my opinion, weighs less (than the Hennessy ones for sure) and I find it easier to hang with the bishop bag also.

I'm sure tree are a hundred different opinions on this of course!

I currently used mesh skins from Mountaingoat on my tarp. I love the ease of set up and take down. It is different to pack however since it won't really compress. I simply fold it over a few times and strap it to the outside, which works well since I can get right to it to get out of the rain quickly if need be.

I am going to make some for my Blackbird this week. I have been using the double ended stuff sack, but I don't really like it. I can't really explain why...it just seems "sloppy" to me.

My son has his HH Scout and tarp in one set of skins. His set up/take down is amazingly fast.

I made a snakeskin for my WBBB and it works quite well. First thing it that it allows me to determine the location of the foot from the head; which is important for the BB because the zipper is on one side only. I can easily place my whoopie slings and all of my guy lines when wrapping it up and not having any worry about tangled lines when its unwrapped. As with a snakeskin for a tarp, it allows for ease of set up and take down. It also allows for accomodating the webbing straps. overall it's a good organizing feature.

Wife and I both have BB's and daughter has a HH with the snake skins. We just got back from our inaugural hanging trip in FL and here's my (limited experience) take on it:

I love the bishop bags the BB's come with. I leave a bit of the strapping out so I know which is the foot end for easy set up. I find the set up and take down quite easy. The kid loves her SS's and makes putting up and taking down look like a breeze. What I don't like about it is that if you pack up your entire set up in the SS's then you have to use your tarp or then take it off and store somewhere if you don't want it. She even came up with that same comment the one night. I suppose if you always use your tarp or if you have 2 sets of SS's (1 for hammock and other for tarp) then this is a non-issue .

The other thing I really don't like about her setup is although it all fits in the same sack the HH came with, it packs very rigid. It seems heavier than my set up at first until I weighed it to compare. I like how I can compress my tarp and hammock down if I need to, something that I couldn't do with hers.

At first I thought I might get the SS's for just the tarp on my BB so that I can hang it up and leave it in the SS unless I needed it. But thinking about it that way, it only saves me a few seconds of tying it off the tarp on the trees, I mean I still have to tie it down everywhere else. Although I might still try this with her SS's later on.

I'm sure there are folks with more experience than I on this forum, but since I was thinking about the same thing this past week, I thought I would share.

Thanks guys. Does anyone know of a pattern for one that would work with the BB or a vendor that sells them?

Wilderness Logics makes what is called "the Slug"..netting to put over your hammock with the quilt still on it, 2 sizes,,out of netting similar to what they use on their snake skins for tarps, You might check out the sizes they off on their web site if your going to make them. Flatline has a video somewhere on using the Slug,,on his equipment.

I think this will work,,here is link,,

I had a bishop bag for my BB and then Pan gave me the first JRB python skins made and I must say l like the speed of the skins for setup and take down, but I like how the hammock packs nicer in the bishop bag. Right now I'm keeping the skins. Anything that helps me set up faster has the edge.
