I was thinking the other side of the lake, Manistee up near Cadillac, could mean getting around Chi town for you. About 5-6 hours from Chicago. Would that be possible? You could go through the UP for a real ride of beauty.

    Neo,

Would enjoy having you man!! I do have to say that I love a good canoe. I have done both, I just love the history, the shape, the joy of the canoe. Not to mention I can put a thousand pounds in it and go!!

How about sometime in September, say the third weekend?

I've seen more than coolers on the AT... not from Thru hikers tho... I was part of a party hike that carried in 6 tiki torches, and gallon of fuel for said torches, more libations than you could shake a stick at, a fire grill, fresh vegetables and about 20 pounds of pasta salad. hehehehe We gave a couple through hikers the feast of their trip. It was grand.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Those hikers musta thought they had died and gone to heaven. Speaking of weight! I carry cast iron dutch ovens on my canoe trips. They make some mean lasagna and awesome biscuits for breakfast. I will treat this trip to some of that good dutch oven cooking.
