I'm new to the forrum and hopefully new to hammocking. I got my first look at hammocks while on a canoe trip on the Allagash river here in Maine. It was a Hennessey bottom entry. I was camping on Umbagog lake with my friend and I saw someone else camping in a hammock. I wish I could remember his name...he was very helpful and informative. I'm on the verge of buying some material to make my own hammock and tarp. I thought it would be helpful to check out this forum before I start.

Welcome from Florida! I was in Maine last month snowshoeing, hammock camping (but I didn't see you) and even skied a few days at Sunday River. I love New England in all four seasons.

You will find all that you ever wanted to know about hammocks, backpacking and more here, probably more than you ever wanted to know. Just my rather biased opinion. Lots to learn, lots to enjoy.

Welcome to HF from Bama........check out www.diygearsupply.com for all of the supplies you will need for your hammock and tarp. They also have some really good plans for both a tarp and hammock as well. Good luck and post some shots of your work when you get them done.

Umbagog is on my list this year of places to hang.
I've never been there but it looks like a great spot to kayak and hang.

Good luck with the DIY projects. This place is a great resource.
