    North Ga./SC/NC Chattooga River

Giving a shout out to our new trail friends and a big thanks for the warm welcome. My son and I met Hanging Burrito, Running Feather, Pod, Rockerz71, Cookie, Puddin' and DraicKin. HB, RF and Pod were the diehards that braved the storms on Friday and welcomed the rest of us stragglers as we filed into camp oat different times on Saturday. This is a beautiful place to hang, hike, fish, tell lies, etc. I can't wait for our next chance to return and hope to see some familiar faces . My camera died so I didn't get many pics but will attach a couple of the ones I got. The "grown kid" eating is my son enjoying his first meal on the trail

Glad you guys had a good trip. I'm really impressed that some of them were in there Friday. Wow! I hope someone got some storm videos.

I was in there last weekend camping at the "Beach" campsite.
I have the same picture of that leaf that you took.

I'm really looking forward to the April 13-15 trip.

    Ignorance is bliss

HB, Pod, and I, set out early Friday morning for the designated camp site. We saw some light rain Friday morning but the good Lord held up the real show till much later in the day.

Since 1.5 miles is technically still ‘car camping’, we toted in a bunch of goodies to ease the passing of time should the weather turn for the worse. I brought in 3 extra tarps. One to fit a bunch of us if it rained, another to cover up the collected dry wood, and a third for personal comfort under my hammock.

We spent most of Friday setting up camp, crafting our bush chairs, setting up the community area, and collecting wood (lottsa wood).

They say ignorance is bliss. Well, it’s true. We had a grand ole time Friday night. The rains came and the winds came, but not too much at the same time. We did get some heavy rains and a great light show in the late night.

We got up Saturday morning and accessed our camp. Pod had a tree limb land on his tarp over night and one of the adjacent trees, about 2’ in diameter, had a large crack in it and was leaning quite a bit. He wisely moved far away.

We took a nice hike to King Creek Falls as well as Spoonauger Falls. Following this we headed back to camp thinking that we might be the only ones to make the hang. Arriving back at camp mid afternoon, we found that rockerZ71 and Sadie had hiked in from the Fishing Hatchery. Cool

As the afternoon progressed our numbers kept increasing. We even picked up 2 HF members that were unaware of the planned event. It was great meeting a bunch of new folks and seeing some old friends (Cookie and Lucy) that made a surprise appearance!

Saturday night we all chowed down in the radiance of a respectable fire, told some tall tales, and had a great time.

Sunday morning we broke camp and took a leisurely stroll back to the trailhead and headed home.

I was truly impressed by the beauty that is the Chattooga River.

Thanks to everyone that made this ‘hang’ such a fun time!!!

I took a few pics. Not as many as I should have:

thanks for the additional report RF. If the storm was anywhere near as intense as it was here in Greenwood I know it had to be interesting!

Glad you guys are ok and didn't see the hail and possible tornadoes predicted. Now, I really wish I hadn't chickened out! I think some of us chickens are planning a follow up trip for this upcoming weekend on the original thread. Probably to a new location.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

And whither then? I cannot say."
