    I'm a noob to hammocks

    Hi Guys,
I just bought a Hennessy Explorer zip to go canoe camping. I did a little reading on the internet about these hammocks and most say that their cold on your back at night. I'm only going camping from late spring to early fall. What do i need besides my sleeping bag to stay warm. I say that Hennessy has a reflective bubble pad???

Can someone suggest what I'll need and what's good.

    Thanks guys for the help!

    Scott

An underquilt (either dowb filled or synthetic) would be your best choice in my opinion. But you could use a blue ccf pad from walmart or a windshield protector and they will help protect you from the cold. Welcome to the Forums by the way from just above you!

+1 on an underquilt. Do it now or you will pay the price later.

Welcome to the forums; from Ohio. You don't want to sleep on your sleeping bag, as once the insulation is compressed, you will be very cold. You could use it as your top quilt for now, really easy if your zipper is in the center. The reflective pad will help with bottom insulation...but only to a certain degree. You'll be able to get a lot of information on insulation here on the forums and what to do for under quilt solutions.

    Thanks very much!
I was going to give it a try with just the sleeping bag in May. I would have froze i bet. I'll read through these forums and hopefully gain enough info to enjoy my new hammock.

    Thanks again

First thanks for the advice. I'll have to read through the posts and find something that packs fairly small and won't cost me the first born.

    Thx again

Pads work well....until you go UQ. You will have to try some and see which one works best for you. I liked my Thermarest Prolite until I got a UQ.

Thanks for the help I'm going to read a lot before my big trip in May. I don't want to be days out in the wild freezing my butt off. I can hear my friends now saying I should have brought my tent...

    Thanks for the help!

I was surfing you tube and came across your videos. They got me started thinking about hammock camping and last weekend i bought my first hammock tent. I can't wait to try it out...

    Thanks Shug
