I just did the Ludington hang in Mich. There is the Hoosier hang and one in Wisconsin in April. Unfortunately for us Northern Illinoisians there are not a lot of options. I tend to meet up with others north or south. Forest Glen in central Ill would be a good place to go if you want to hike in rather then car camp. Nice little 11 mile loop. My schedule is always a little crazy with work and family and it makes it had to commit, but if I go in April you are welcome to come along.

I don't know about group hangs, but I believe the ice age trail is fairly close to Chicago.

Closest point to catch ice age trail from windy city is probally at Eagle Wis. It is nice up there. Good place to plan a long weekend trek. If my son and i get up that way this summer I will post ahead of time. We are far west burbs.

I've hiked/camped/ski'd the Kettle a few times, and it seems like a good choice for a short trip. I'm up near Lake Zurich.

I thought this was a typo!

You sure you didn't mean farthest? Hey I used to live in Chicago so I should be able to joke about it.

As a virgin hanger, I just wanted to see a group without going too far, in order to prepare for myy August trip to the Boundary Waters (which is plenty far enough). (Didn't mean that to sound too suggestive.)
